The freedom to fish is not just a hobby; it’s our way of life.

"We believe that the freedom to fish is not jsut a hobby; it's our heritage. From the sun-kissed beaches to the serene inland waters, Queensland's recreational fishers deserve the right to enjoy our natural bounty without excessive government interference.

Join us in the crucial fight. Together, we'll ensure that the only thing we limit is the government's ability to resctrict our fishing rights"

WHO

Who We Are:

We are a community of passionate fishers who have come together to safeguard the future of recreational fishing in Queensland. Founded by a group of dedicated fishers, URF was born out of the need to stand up against unfair restrictions and government policies that threaten our waters and way of life.

Our members come from all walks of life, but we are united by a common goal: to ensure that Queensland’s fishing heritage remains open, accessible, and sustainable for generations to come.

Our Mission:

Our mission is simple but vital: to protect the rights of recreational fishers in Queensland and to advocate for fair policies that balance both conservation and the enjoyment of our natural resources. We are here to ensure that our voices are heard by policymakers, that recreational fishing is prioritised over foreign commercial interests, and that our community can continue to fish freely, without excessive restrictions.

FIGHT

Why We Fight:

In recent years, we’ve seen an increasing push to prioritise commercial fishing exports, often at the expense of local recreational fishers. The government’s conflicting regulations—restricting local fishers while declaring fish stocks healthy enough for large-scale exports—have sparked frustration and concern within our community.

At URF, we’re not just reacting to these policies—we’re actively shaping the future. By building a united front of over one million recreational fishers across Queensland, we’re making sure that the government knows we will not be ignored.

What We Stand For:

  • Preserving Our Fishing Rights: We fight to protect Queensland’s waters from excessive restrictions, ensuring that everyone has the right to enjoy our fishing heritage.
  • Sustainable Practices: We believe in fishing not just for today, but for tomorrow. Conservation and sustainability are key to maintaining the health of our marine ecosystems.
  • Community Empowerment: We empower our members with the tools, information, and opportunities they need to make their voices heard.
  • Representation: We advocate for recreational fishers in meetings with government officials and policymakers, ensuring our interests are represented at every level.
